Bengali InScript is a Unicode keyboard layout standardised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and mandated by the Government of India for all central government computer systems. It is part of the Indian Script Code for Information Interchange (ISCII) family of keyboard layouts that covers all major Indian languages using a consistent phonetic mapping.
In the InScript layout, the key positions follow the same phonetic pattern across all Indian languages — so a typist who knows InScript for one language can quickly adapt to another. Vowels and consonants are distributed across the keyboard following the traditional Devanagari-based phonetic structure.
